One thing everybody can agree on is that there’s no particular dancing style anymore. Kromatika says he dances like “a giant giraffe sprinkling cosmic electricity while having a seizure.” Angelle describes herself as “a seven-foot black transsexual trapped in the body of a five-foot Puerto Rican”; Doria Grace says she’s “fly-girl hip-hop thug attitude mixed with Gypsy belly dancing and crazy freak-out spasms.” And though Thompson wishes the clubs were bigger, Angelle wants fresh DJ blood, Grace is frustrated by the lack of a message, and Kromatika just wants people to dress weirder, they agree Basstown is a good thing. Grace: “I think women especially are bored of the joints with 12,000 plasma screens all showing the same boring sports channel.” Or, as Harmony Dawn puts it: “Look at the political situation, the economic situation, and the general malaise caused by the Bush administration . . . Why wouldn’t we be dancing?”
