Jazz vocal superstar DEE DEE BRIDGEWATER’s tour for her Red Earth: A Malian Journey (Emarcy) comes to the Cutler Majestic Theatre (219 Tremont St, Boston, 800.233.3133) October 10 with bassist Ira Coleman, pianist Edsel Gomez, percussionist Minino Garay, Baba Sissoko on n’goni, singers Assitan Kéita and Kabiné Kouyaté, Lansiné Kouyaté on balafon, Adama Diarra on djembé, and Mamadou Cherif Soumano on kora. Post-Sinatra powerhouse crooner STEVE TYRELL plays a gala benefit (giant buffet and all) for the Barry L. Price Rehabilitation Center at the Holiday Inn Brookline (1200 Beacon St; 781.239.1480) October 27. The PAT METHENY TRIO with Christian McBride and Antonio Sanchez makes its only area appearance at Mechanics Hall in Worcester (321 Main St; 508.752.0880) November 7. And the MARIA SCHNEIDER JAZZORCHESTRA makes a rare Boston visit courtesy of Berklee and the Celebrity Series of Boston (Berklee Performance Center, 136 Mass Ave, Boston; 617.482.6661) November 17.

There’s much more jazz going on every week at outposts like Wally’s, Matt Murphy’s Pub, and the Acton Jazz Café as well as at Berklee and New England Conservatory. For updates, visit www.jazzboston.org.

  •   MISS TESS | DARLING, OH DARLING  |  December 02, 2009
Boston singer-songwriter Miss Tess has always had the pipes and the taste to carry off her various ventures into country, blues, and multi-hued swing, but Darling, Oh Darling underlines her overall sound.
  •   ERIK DEUTSCH | HUSH MONEY  |  November 25, 2009
Having played in projects from jam bands to jazz and as a singer-songwriter accompanist, keyboardist Erik Deutsch led an acoustic jazz album for his debut.

  •   LIVE AND ON RECORD  |  November 04, 2009
To call Darius Jones’s music avant-garde seems almost beside the point. In its way, it’s older than old — it’s ancient.
