To accompany the review of BY BLOOD ALONE’s disc, it bears noting that CRUELLA (real name MELYNDA AMANN, former booker at GENO’S, among other things) has been battling triple-negative stage 2B invasive ductal carcinoma, which you might otherwise call breast cancer. Maybe you knew that. The good news is that Amann is reportedly feeling well — well enough, at least, to perform at the October 27 CD-release show at Geno’s. Other good news includes the outpouring of support we’ve seen from the local music front. Check out WWW.BENEFITFORMELYNDA.ORG for all the details, but fundraisers include the October 31 show at Geno’s featuring COVERED IN BEES, TWISTED ROOTS, and PIGBOAT, plus a month-long auction of artwork on the Geno’s walls through November. Also, she’s shaved her head. That’s always a good thing.
SPECTER frontman JEFF BEAM has nailed down the release show for his solo record, Mind the Gap. He’ll be joined by PETE KILPATRICK at the Big Easy, October 26, with an album on-sale date of October 23. For the show, it looks like the band may be something like MARK DENNIS on guitar, JAY GLOVER on bass, and ANDY EYERER on drums. We’ll see.
TRUTH ABOUT DAISIES, the quintet formerly known as SEE JANE RUN in these parts, have announced plans for a CD-release show November 10 at One Longfellow Square. Self-titled, the disc runs 14 folky, country, poppy tracks, including the seemingly appropriate “Sunshine,” “Little Wildflower,” and “Pink Peonies.” Of some note is that drummer DAN SONENBERG is the composer-in-residence at the USM School of Music. Of further note is that he’s not apparently a songwriter for the group. Some of us “Sibilance” types would find that intimidating, having a composer-in-residence type just playing drums for songs we wrote. What? Like we don’t write songs?
