Christe concludes his opus with a wistful hope for re-formation, for healing. “Maybe the future of our civilization doesn’t depend on Van Halen reuniting,” he writes, adding, “maybe it does. . . . ” His book was completed before the line-up for the current tour was announced — after 20 years of acrimony, Diamond Dave is back in the fold. They’re coming. Let civilization not sink before they get here.
