Organized chaos

By SUSANNA BOLLE  |  November 6, 2007

As for mass production, after years of building one-of-a-kind instruments, last fall Rylan founded Flower Electronics, which produces small runs of instruments, such as her much sought-after Little Boy Blue personal modular synthesizer. The synths have proven to be popular gifts; you can check out photos and sound samples at www.flowerelectronics.com.

“The last three synthesizers that I sold were actually birthday presents bought by guys for their girlfriends. It was really weird, but then I realized, ‘God, this is the best market!’ So we’ve been talking about designing a special Valentine’s Day product.”
