We’re not sure anyone saw it coming, but SATELLITE LOT are dropping their much-anticipated follow-up to the best album of 2005, Second Summer. It’s called Sleepwalk in a Burning Building and you can get it for your very own on December 14 at SPACE, where they’ll be playing with former EXTENDO-RIDER Brandon Davis’s ELF PRINCESS GETS A HARLEY. “I know it’s short notice,” writes the Lot’s CASEY MCCURRY, “but we had no choice, because we couldn’t wait for all the college kids to come back in February to release it.” Pshaw, we say. Some of us over 22 like the band, too.
Jazz singer CHRIS HUMPHREY is set to release his debut disc as a band leader, Nothing But Blue Sky, with a gig at the Unitarian Church in Kennebunk December 2. The album was recorded in New York City and is being released on CADENCE JAZZ RECORDS, featuring session men MATT WILSON (drums), MARTIN WIND (bass), and MARK SHILANSKY (piano). For the gig, Humphrey, who teaches jazz piano at USM and is director of music at Cheverus, will be joined by MARC LAFORCE on sax, TIM WEBB on bass, and KEN CLARK on drums, along with a slew of special guests.
As a result of the Last Bastion Radio Trust sales, WCLZ is now owned by PORTLAND RADIO GROUP/SAGA COMMUNICATIONS, but the old WCLZ Web site is still up and WCLZ hasn’t quite made it to the PRG Web site. Also, the station seems largely the same, but without the CD at noon, “Greetings from Area Code 207,” or Tad. If anything, the play list has gotten older (we heard Crash Test Dummies the other day, which was frightening), and we’ve yet to hear a local song as we flip through the stations. Maybe we’ve just missed them.
