Below are new sounds from four very different Brooklyn acts — last-minute additions to a year New York’s outer borough has already graced with so much good music.
Excepter, “ ’Burgers”
Electroclash with a psilocybin bent, “ ’Burgers” (short for “Williamsburgers”) is the outsider Brooklyn band’s new pop song, an exercise in elusive wordplay, and their most explicit statement of purpose yet: “Flip those ’Burgers/Turn the party over. . . .”
Blood on the Wall, “Hibernation”
The track kicks off this band’s new and excellent Liferz with fast, uncluttered three-chord punk that could easily be confused with the original ’70s fare. And drummer Miggy Littleton is an ace behind the kit.
Daniel Rossen, “Too Little Too Late”
The Grizzly Bear singer/guitarist recorded this acoustic cover of teen star JoJo’s glossy pop song for his bandmate Edward Droste on the occasion of Droste’s birthday. Rossen’s gorgeous vocal harmony overdubs alone are proof enough that this melody fell at first into the wrong hands.
Arcade Lovers, “Fantasy Lines”
Two of New York’s top-notch disco revivalists, Escort’s Daniel Balis and Metro Area’s Darshan Jesrani, team up for this sleek Tirk 12-inch: understated string and horn passages, unhurried diva vocals, and (of course) the genre’s requisite double entendres.
