Chinese Stars | Listen to Your Left Brain
A brittle blast of synth-rock, evoking the spooks of angular and cranky goth-rockers like Gang of Four, Joy Division, and Public Image.
The Roachenders
Solid, raw, and passionate, with enough hooks to carry a limited bunch of punky power chords a lot further than you’d expect.

At Cats on Friday, December 21, check out SHROUD OF BEREAVEMENT, TWELFTH OF NEVER, and STORMS APPROACH. Call 401.722.0150. Call 401.831.9327.
Back in ’01, KRIS HANSEN suffered a brain aneurysm and was given little chance to survive, let alone make music. But the Big One works in mysterious ways and Hansen has not only lived to tell the story, he has jumped back into the music business. His debut, Lying in the Bed of Now, is credited to the Left Hand Band, a collaboration with Bob Giusti that features George Dussault, Jon Tierney, and Tara Hansen. It’s an outpouring of quality roots and rock, replete with the lyrical wisdom that comes along with surviving a close one. The crew will play at Snookers Lounge on Thursday (the 27th). Call 401.351.7665.

- Celebration of sound
Despite living in a world that is seemingly rotating off its axis and just plain miserable, there are, believe it or not, many reasons to give thanks.
- Kollective soul
Singer/songwriter Kris Hansen and longtime pal Bob Giusti certainly are no stranger to the local music scene, having played out and hosted scores of gigs and all-star, open-mic jam sessions for more than a dozen years as Kris Hansen's Left Hand Band, a tight-knit jazzy/folky-type trio. Their 08 self-titled debut (at CDbaby.com and iTunes) zigged and zagged across acoustic blues and roots-rock, with Hansen's pen celebrating a second chance at life after the Scituate native battled a near-fatal brain aneurysm on the eve of his 24th birthday, as well as Hansen, drummer Giusti, and bassist/engineer George Dussault all becoming dads during the recording process.

- IndieArts mania!
Head down to the Greenwich Hotel THURSDAY (the 16th) and lounge with local acoustic troubadour DANIEL CHASE and Boston's SARAH BORRELLO (her piano-driven cover of "White Rabbit" is insane); never a cover and always 21+, call 401.884.4200 for more.

Rumors of a Rash of Stabbings reunion are not, in fact, greatly exaggerated.

- Shapeshifting
It’s a delicious surprise to find that Jose can get beyond the bedroom sound of Veneer , and by “get beyond,” I mean this guy can swing with a reckless, nerdy abandon that does nothing to rob him of his Nick Drake comparisons. Slideshow: Zero 7 at Avalon, September 12, 2006
