Less is best

By SHARON STEEL  |  March 4, 2008

González and his management have partnered with Reverb, a company that assists musicians in their efforts to plan “green tours.” Although he has a small crew and plays mostly solo, growing up in Sweden has made him particularly aware of the dangers of climate change: “I think on our level it’s more about the symbolic value of it, and the ripple effect that it might bring.” He doesn’t view his tour as an opportunity to sermonize, but he does admit to modeling performances after something sacred, an opportunity to ease in gradually, to find comfort in the quiet. “I’m sort of inspired by the spiritual aspect of religion, and being in a church. I like it when there’s a sense of seriousness and reverence — it’s not so much a theater or a show. It’s more of a chance to let your thoughts wander.”
