Allston dreamscapers SANGUINE DRONE will release their debut this Thursday, June 19, at O’Brien’s accompanied by EKRANOPLAN, 28 DEGREES TAURUS, and the CRUSHING LOW; CHAD PERRONE of anthemic dahlings AVERI releases his first solo outing on Friday at the Paradise, joined by TIM BLAINE and CAHILL; and on Saturday you can choose between EKSI EKSO’s release show at the Paradise with CASPIAN, HOORAY FOR EARTH, and DJ DIE YOUNG and KETMAN’s blowout at the Middle East with HO-AG, AMOROSO, and special guests. Either way, you’ll emerge a local-rock winner. . . . If you’re more interested in what’s old than what’s new, may we suggest the two-day 15th-birthday celebration of Porter Square’s singer/songwriter outpost TOAD? Club years are like dog years, so the fact that this beloved joint has made it 15 whole years without getting all leaky and lazy is quite a feat. Ring in its adolescence with performances by RICK BERLIN, the LOW ANTHEM, the FAMILY JEWELS, the DENNIS BRENNAN BAND, and CHRISTIAN McNEILL AND THE REDEEMERS on Saturday and LORI McKENNA, TODD THIBEAU AND SEAN STAPLES, the HEYGOODS, TOM BIANCHI AND FRIENDS, SESSION AMERICANA, and TIM GEARAN on Sunday. Your 15th-birthday party completely sucked in comparison.

As I watched this season's 16 Project Runway hopefuls squinting into the setting sun during their champagne reception atop the Title Guarantee Building in Los Angeles, it was hard not to view the scene as a sad little metaphor for the state of the show.
