Notes on Krumbsnatcha, Wolves, Akrobatik, and Slaine
By MATTHEW M. BURKE  |  March 21, 2006

Slaine, "Rich Man Poor Man"The Roxbury-based label ICEMAN RECORDS is putting the final touches on its 15-track compilation  Massmindstate , which has some of Boston’s most in-demand artists. KRUMBSNATCHA and WOLVES are finishing the disc’s final song this week. Also on board are AKROBATIK , RIP SHOP , TAME 1 , NBS , BACKDRAFT , IROQ AND JOHN DOE , and LYRICAL . A single from the album, “BlastMass,” dropped last week, featuring EDO G of SPECIAL TEAMZ and the soulful JV DARAPSINGA , who stands out by flipping craftily between rap and R&B. JV is working on a new album, but a release date has not been set. The B-side of the Iceman single, “City Pride,” comes from Daniel Laurent, a/k/a DL, who’s fresh off the release of The Suppression (Commonwealth/Self Made Entertainment). The official release date for Massmindstate is June, but it’ll be available earlier at www.icemanrecords.com . . . Former WILD 97.7 personality MR. PETER PARKER returns from his new on-air gig in Minneapolis/St. Paul to host the Joe Budden show March 25 at the Middle East downstairs. Presented by Leedz Edutainment, the gig also features DL, BALLKLUB , and DRE ROBINSON , whose nationally distributed This Is Me will drop within the month . . . Boston up-and-comer SLAINE introduced a music video (click the screenshot above to watch it) last week for the title track from his debut album, Rich Man Poor Man (Commonwealth Records). In the clip, Slaine illustrates his signature style — a marriage of hardcore and mainstream appeal — by giving hip-hop lessons while holding a handle of Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rum and standing on the roof of a Hummer while two beautiful girls swap spit. At one point it rains money. Slaine celebrates the release of Rich Man Poor Man Friday March 31 at McGann’s on Portland Street in Boston.
