Also, THE BENEDICTIONS play the Brooklyn Coffee & Tea House (401.575.2284), THE SCHEMERS play their final show of the year at the Blackstone, and the ESTHEMA WORLD FUSION ENSEMBLE is at the Blackstone River Theatre in Cumberland. The Berklee grads stir up Middle Eastern rhythms infused with jazz and prog-rock (401.725.9272). And don’t forget a special two-day weekend blowout edition of the ROCK & ROLL YARD SALE at 232 Westminster Street, with guest DJs spinning both days and a full roster of acts including BROWN BIRD, THE ’MERICANS, and Boston’s SLEEPYHEAD. Last Friday night, Dan Deacon dug frantically through tangles of cables for one that might get a live signal out of the duct-taped pile of equipment in front of him. A fire truck and an ambulance, pulling up outside the windows behind him, filled the room with dueling strobes.

The last time Deer Tick were in Portland, at SPACE Gallery in November 2007, then-21-year-old frontman John McCauley decided to sing the national anthem. He sprung offstage and hit the floor belting the Tony Bennett standard "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" in a nasal voice soaked in equal parts whiskey, battery acid, and gravel.
