The best that can be said for that mess is that while it’s considerably longer than the GOP’s plank on the same subject, it’s just as vague.
There’s a lot of blather designed to appeal to special-interest groups, such as support for doctor-assisted suicide (rejected by the voters in referendum), same-sex marriage (ditto), and longer term limits for legislators. And then there’s this incomprehensible blob of pandering:
“[E]lectoral reforms such as preference voting, proportional representation, voter-verified paper ballots, non-partisan election commissions, Election Day National Holiday, automatic voter registration at age 18 or upon citizenship, elimination of excessive personal identification for voting, and counting of every vote including valid provisional votes.”
They also want to “reduce the influence of professional lobbyists.”
Just find Severin Beliveau a suitable alternative job. Like chief justice of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court.
When the Tea Partiers surprised the Republicans by passing a platform filled with anti-immigrant rhetoric and delusions about one-world government, Democrats were quick to criticize. “It’s official,” said Dem politico Arden Manning in a press release, “the Maine GOP has been hijacked by the far right.”
The far left did the same to the Democrats.
