It's another month until Halloween but there's some frightening rock 'n' roll afoot in downtown La Prov this Saturday, August 27. Local artist and recently minted Young Adults right hand man, Chris "Pop" Popoloski, is the impresario behind a great bill at the Roots (they recently dropped "Café" from their name). Blue Coupe, featuring the Bouchard Brothers (founding members of Blue Öyster Cult) and Dennis Dunaway of Alice Cooper (co-composer with Mr. Furnier of "I'm Eighteen" and "School's Out") head a bill that also features Lolita Black and local Rhody legends Backwash (featuring Pete "the Dishwasher" Burr). Miss this and you'll have to deal with Pop.

RIP

Our thoughts and prayers are with Miguel Luna's family. The Providence City Councilman was laid to rest on Monday at St. Michael's Church on Oxford Street in Providence with a huge throng in attendance. Miguel was a friend to the poor and to recent arrivals to the USA. He was a good man and a good friend.

Though he spent a stint as executive director of the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation under Governor Lincoln "Missing Linc" Almond, Marcel Valois — the newly named head ramrod of the beleaguered EDC — is hardly a household name in The Biggest Little. (Unless, of course, you live in a household with a lot of people named Marcel or Valois.)
