The Westerly Sun recently ran a story on Jackson's rap sheet. It's a colorful one, featuring charges of DUI, an assault on a police officer, a domestic assault, bounced checks, and a bid at "falsely obtaining prescription drugs." These are not all convictions, mind you — some of the charges were dropped — but they're enough to make one go "huh?"
There is also an independent challenger for Walsh's seat, one Kevin Prescott. We have never shied away from independents, always believing the more the merrier, but, if the Sun article is any guide, Prescott makes Jackson look like the Flying Nun. His sheet includes numerous DUIs, a breaking and entering charge, assault, disorderly conduct, and one incident that involved waving around an air pistol.
Prescott does have a strong alibi. He told the Sun that he was 'faced during many of these incidents and doesn't remember the majority.
So, much as we would like to see a bit more party balance up at the State House — we'd all be better off if Smith Hill weren't utterly dominated by one party — there is no way that the people of District 36 should be tossing Walsh from office.
