Given the team’s current circumstances, with Hernandez facing life in jail and the Pats’ other star tight end Rob Gronkowski looking as injury-prone as the Red Sox former outfielder J.D. “Nancy” Drew (we still love ya, Gronk), the odds on God-bothering Tim Tebow getting the start at the position on Opening Day are now down to 4-1 on the Las Vegas line.

Reel life in South County

New this year to the Biggest Little’s cultural landscape is the South County Film Festival, created by the head of LDI Casting, Anne Mulhall, and the filmmaker, Skip Shea. It’s taking place all day on July 19 at Ninigret Park in Charlestown and the plan is to show three different blocks of films from around the world (shorts and features, alike) at 12, 3, and 6 pm. The festival will also be presenting their first annual Robert Aldrich Award to Rhody-born producer/director, Michael Corrente.

Aldrich was born in Cranston and, even if the name isn’t familiar, you know his films. He was the director of the noir classics, Kiss Me Deadly, The Dirty Dozen, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?, and The Killing of Sister George, among others. Of course, Michael Corrente wrote and directed Federal Hill and directed American Buffalo and Outside Providence (all shot in RI) and continues to make films.

With proceeds from the festival going to support Al’s Moving Minds (, a non-profit for seniors living with moderate-stage memory loss, the festival is looking for more sponsors. If you’d like to get in on the ground floor of something truly special, give a call to Anne at LDI Casting at 401.226.4677.

The films selected for the fest were announced a bit after our print deadline here at the Phoenix, so head to the festival website,, to find out what will be screened.

This is a big deal in the RI film community and we hope all you cineastes out there will make the trip to Charlestown for this event.
