RISPCA office administrator Julie Nadro says volunteers who spend time with shelter pets can improve an animal’s wellbeing and increase its chances of being adopted. “We’re always looking for volunteers for things like walking dogs and socializing cats — just spending that little bit of extra quality time with the animals can go a long way,” she says
HOW YOU CAN HELP: RISPCA volunteers are welcome on an ongoing basis for activities like dog-walking, shelter assistance, fundraising, and providing foster homes. If you’re short on time but want to make a donation, you can drop off items like food, pet toys, and litter at the RISPCA office at 186 Amaral Street in Riverside. Nadro also recommends sponsoring a pet for the holidays. “It’s a great gift to give to someone you know who’s an animal lover and help an animal at the same time,” she says.
