What do you think this nuclear test means for the future of North Korea?
It’s really hard to know. Everybody . . . all the very specialized people in North Korea were thinking they weren’t going to launch the missile. And even China was saying, “Don’t cross the red line.” And China is their big ally. But they did. So now it’s like, “Well, they don’t even listen to China, they don’t listen to Russia, so who’s going to stop them?” I don’t know; it’s very scary. But I think the Chinese are leading. And if they really want to stop them, they can put the pressure on.
You brought along a copy of 1984 when you went.
[North Korea] was always mentioned as an Orwellian country. So I brought it with me. I figured it would be the best place to read it. And it really was. It was so amazing how [Orwell] foresaw everything. Everything he describes in 1984, it’s North Korea exactly.
