Nietzsche’s will to power is first and foremost directed inward, toward self-overcoming — empowerment through gaining power over yourself. Or rather, over parts of yourself, one or more wills, or desires, or drives overcoming another will, drive, or sets of desires and drives. Next, the will is directed, channeled, and sublimated (Nietzsche invented that meaning of the word, not Freud, although the concept goes back to Plato) into joyous and overflowing moments of self-expression, such as acts of artistic creation, philosophical discovery, or mystical and spiritual experience. Nietzsche preached not the mastery of others, but salvation through self-mastery.
Would that tiny vanilla Mitt or any American leader (or any leader anywhere) had all that, and the will, and better still the visionary ability, to remake, to create anew America’s and the world’s now-tired and decadent values.
