But Cantone, a Catholic priest, says of Brown’s placement there: “I could tell . . . with all those guys around him, he was out of his element. Those guys are very violent, of the lower nature, very crude, and he is so much more sophisticated and intellectual. He does not fit in with these guys. . . . There is nothing on [Brown’s] record to indicate violence,” he notes. Brown is serving a 59-year sentence for burglary.
Cantone says the Maryland Supermax officials, including the warden, recognize that Brown “doesn’t deserve” to be there: “They are working to get him out of here.”
