More D.I.Y. dinner theater
From the same fevered brows that brought you Meatballs, Meshuganahs and (More) Meatballs comes Holy Holiday Hi-Jinx. We dig it, because it is as loony as the best of public access cable and done by people with the true “let’s put on a show” spirit.
Your last chance to see this astonishing piece of work is this Sunday, December 17 at Jimmy D.’s (formerly Rossi’s Café), 1785 Cranston St., in Cranston. Doors open at 6, with a cocktail hour in which you will definitely want to indulge. The $30 admission includes a terrific Italian dinner (there is a vegetarian option), the show, tax, and gratuity. If you just want to see the show, it’s only $15, with a two-drink minimum, but we advise you to go for the whole thing. Call the restaurant at 401.943.3196 to make your reservation. This is classic Vo Dilun.

President Bush’s penchant for authoritarianism — for executive power unchecked by either Congress or the courts — has been laid bare by his aggressive and unapologetic defense of the indefensible: the secret surveillance of Americans without warrants.

Regarding your editorial on George W. Bush’s rejiggered Iraq policy, let us see what our cowardly congressional representatives do: will they simply hold a few hearings in an attempt to pacify the masses? Or will they take action against an administration that makes Nixon’s appear contrite?
- McCain’s crooked talk on torture
It might surprise some that McCain’s record in opposing torture and the Bush administration’s terror-war approach is more complicated than his comments suggest.

The Brown University class being taught this semester by Lincoln Chafee, the Republican US senator-turned-independent supporter of Barack Obama, has an up-to-the-moment title: “Whither America.”

Toward the end of 2006, we woke up to the glad news that Chile’s former strongman Augusto Pinochet had saved everyone the trouble of hanging his sickly carcass for war crimes and atrocities by dying of a heart attack.

- Talk show titan
The topic of the day is President George W. Bush’s nationally televised speech about increasing the number of troops in Iraq — and Dan Yorke isn’t particularly pleased.
