Anna Nicole death watch
If you haven’t had enough of the thin gruel of celebrity stew being doled out by the national media — which gives short shrift to violations of the Constitution and the continuing carnage in Iraq — it just keeps getting worse.

(Don’t forget the excellent Washington Post expose of the treatment of Iraq War veterans at part of Walter Reed.)

Now, P&J hear that the Big Three networks have requested that Anna Nicole Smith’s wake feature an open casket, to provide better visuals of decomposed flesh for the national audience of ghouls. Talking tie-and-pompadour Brian Williams won the fight to be closest to the casket, due in large part to MSBNC’s 24/7 coverage of Anna Nicole’s demise. Katie Couric will be next to him, wearing an extremely short skirt and max lipstick, while Charles Gibson has shown some class by asking to be able to wear a paper bag over his head for the duration.

There was a very nice star turn on the November 29 edition of 60 Minutes by URI's Bob Ballard, although the university got scant mention.
  •   PAGING QUEEQUEG  |  November 25, 2009
Like Captain Ahab with Moby-Dick, it appears Providence Bishop Tommy Tobin has his own obsession with Rep. Patrick Kennedy.
  •   GOVERNOR GHOUL  |  November 18, 2009
Phillipe and Jorge are coming late to this fight, as last week’s column was already filed when the announcement was made that Governor Donald Carcieri — Governor Ghoul to you — had vetoed a bill giving domestic partners the right to claim the bodies of and make funeral arrangements for the people with whom they shared their lives.
  •   EASY ED STRIKES AGAIN  |  November 11, 2009
It’s always easy for Ed. That’s “Easy Ed” Achorn, the Other Paper’s deputy editorial pages editor who is the equivalent of a right-wing P&J.
  •   PAGING DILBERT  |  November 04, 2009
What’s black and white and re(a)d all over? Certainly not the Providence Urinal, whose circulation has been falling faster than a 1000-pound safe pushed out of a sky-scraper window.
