Farewell, decanter of doom
Word comes to P&J that the Decatur Lounge, one of the Biggest Little’s most beloved bars, is closing. Owner Joann Seddon hopes to reopen in the future, but this appears, at the moment, to be the most prudent approach to a business impasse. This could put a temporary crimp, however, in sales of Narragansett Beer.
The Decatur was a great West Side spot for hipsters, neighborhood characters, dog lovers, sports lovers, kickball lovers, and lots of other interesting people from across the city and beyond (it was a great mix, for sure). We will miss drinking Decatur Decapitators and watching the Sox or Sopranos in the bar’s cozy confines.

The scene is familiar: the vast blue sky, the expanses of sand, and, atop a distant hill, Jesus delivers the Sermon on the Mount to a rapt throng. But on the fringes of the crowd, His listeners behave like rowdies at a rock concert, yelling at one another and brawling until no one can hear the Savior's words. What's that He said? Blessed are the cheesemakers?

With all due respect to David Bowie's lyrics — and certainly to all the men and women in the military at all levels — the concept of "hero" as it pertains to the media's use of the term has sadly become overblown.
