Prison food

By BEN TERRIS  |  May 7, 2008

“The people who come to eat here, and the people who work here, together it’s kind of like a family,” says Forde, who works as one of the Fife’s two bakers. “Everyone from the super to Eddie treats us like we are human. The facilities are good, they work us hard, but it’s rewarding, and hey, they even got us a waffle maker.”

“Yeah, and the kitchen doesn’t just improve the quality of our lives,” King chimes in. “It’s good for everyone. The pig farm guy comes and takes away all the stuff that we and the patrons don’t eat. So even the pigs are eating good because of us. They’re eating cheesecake and lasagna. I think we’re making life pretty good for those pigs.”
