8. WE'LL HAVE FEWER SUPERWEEDS, AND OTHER FRANKENFOOD EFFECTS
The Department of Agriculture is supposed to oversee and regulate the use of genetically engineered or modified crops. Bush's level of commitment to this was made clear when he named as his first agriculture secretary Ann Veneman, a woman largely responsible for, er, the Flavr Savr tomato. While Europe and other markets have slowed the development of superfoods, America has charged forward. One side effect, among many (that we know of so far): the emergence of a new strain of herbicide-resistant "superweeds."
