At the Sons of Sam Horn message board, fans were apoplectic. “Putting Sox Appeal on right after the game? Putting the post-game on after a reality dating show? Brutal.”
Wrote another: “I’m beginning to wonder if I could trade a losing season that kills off the pink hatters for a return to some sort of substance in a broadcast.”
NESN has since relented and begun broadcasting the show post-post-game. But are we starting to miss the point? Do people really want to watch moony lovebirds in the Fenway stands mere moments after a crushing loss?
If, Heaven forfend, we somehow stumble in September and miss the playoffs, all this hype could end up looking pretty silly. And knowing that some bandwagoneer has found love with a Connecticut Yankee fan would be small consolation.
