You do seem fearless on stage, on TV, in print. Is that true? And if so, is it a state you had to build up to?
I get scared, but I think I always just figure I have nothing to lose. I accept that bombing and doing shitty and going the wrong direction is part of it all. If I stay with the jokes that work and never try new stuff — I think that’s a darker fate. . . . I’ve been doing stand-up again and really starting over with it. I have about 20 new minutes.

If you were somehow in your own audience, how do you think you’d react to the confrontation, the perceived cruelty, the uncomfortable moments?
Eep. I don’t know. I’d probably find myself too crass.

You do write about how your male co-writers on The Sarah Silverman Program routinely pull out their johnsons. Do your privates make appearances during comedy-writing sessions?
No. Unfortunately there’s nothing funny about my boobs or vagina.

Hey, you were recently name-dropped in the “Granite State of Mind” video, the Jay-Z knockoff! Proud?
So proud. It was super fun to watch that one. My beau [Alec Sulkin] is from the Boston area, and we both loved it.
