The only program of the Book Festival to feature a Nobel laureate, this panel is sure to fill up. Joseph Stiglitz, the laureate in question, recently published Freefall, a book about the tanking economy geared to the general reader in which he challenges the excesses of the free market. Joining him will be two area economists (cue Onion headline). Juliet Schor, who teaches sociology at Boston College, is most famous for her 1992 book, The Overworked American. Her most recent title, Plentitude, takes on consumerism in the context of sociology, economics, and environmental decline. Michael Porter is a professor at Harvard Business School whose job it is to advise the world's most prominent corporate leaders. Moderating will be the even-handed host of On Point, Tom Ashbrook.
