"After that there is nothing more," Mankell writes. "The story of Kurt Wallander is finished, once and for all." With one brief paragraph, the author sums up and dismisses the remainder of his hero's life, making it clear this crisis is no Reichenbach Falls. He may as well have said to his readers, "Happy now? Go away." We aren't, but believe me, we will.
