Boston comics really go out for the kill, and I learned a lot from that. They really grab you by the throat and throw you down. One of the first things I remember was going into the club and watching Tony V. This is when he was heavier, he'd get on stage and he'd say, "I know what you're thinking. Doesn't he look exactly like Valerie Bertinelli?" It takes two seconds. First off, it's like, "Wow. He's hanging himself out there." But, in two seconds, you go, "Fuck! He does. He looks like a fat Valerie Bertinelli." I literally laughed for minutes.

B. Dolan is like Joaquin Phoenix with no safety net and a whole lot more back hair. Unlike Phoenix in last year's faux meta-mockumentary I'm Not Here , the Providence native doesn't shock people for no good reason.
- I did Sookie Stackhouse
What is it about reading and falling in love that invites cliché. When I met Sookie Stackhouse, the heroine of Charlaine Harris's Southern Vampire series, I didn't think much of her. She was right under my nose, but I was blind. But when I fell, oh, did I fall. I daresay Sookie had her way with me. She transformed a self-conscious reader of big, important novels into a dribbling paranormal romance hound. I'm still kind of bitter about it.
