SHYLOCK UNLOCKEDThe Rialto intersected Wall Street in Theatre for a New Audience's steely, droll, and deeply disquieting The Merchant of Venice, which ArtsEmerson brought to the Cutler Majestic Theatre. Darko Tresnjak directed the 21st-century staging, which narrowed the difference between mercantile Venice and romantic Belmont and cast a chill on the problem comedy's happy ending. Kate MacCluggage was a brainy, snarky Portia, but Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham's Shylock was the dignified, humiliated heart of the production.
