This is the kind of work that Zinn and company excelled in at WHAT at both the small Wellfleet harbor theater and the newer 200-seat space on Route 6. When Zinn was fired at the end of last season, it was widely assumed on the Cape that the board thought his taste wasn't commercial enough. Many of the actors who worked with him formed a new group, and the landlord of the harbor theater leased that wonderful space to them instead of to WHAT. The strange thing is that when you look at next year's WHAT schedule on Route 6, it isn't any more commercial than in previous years, so the split seemingly could have been avoided.
The New Repertory Theatre also has a new artistic director, Jim Petosa. Here's hoping there'll be room at the new New Rep Inn for the Sachses and Zinns of the theater world as he goes forward. ^
