Animal collective

C We have found that working in pairs is the best method for building, not only for efficiency, but creativity purposes as well. If there are more than two people, someone is usually left out doing nothing. Also, too many creative minds on one project slows the process down. It's fun to work with your partner, then look over at what the other two are creating; it's amazing how well we all work together but think so differently. Usually after we build with one group member on a project we will start the next project with a different member, so in this way we all work together.
M Humor is a central theme. We each have our own separate disciplines so this is kinda playtime.
D We could only do this show as a group, trying to build this stuff is impossible alone, it's too big. The beauty of our working method is that we start with an idea, it doesn’t matter who came up with it, then we just build in teams of two until it’s done. Like "Nascar Camel."
C We were like, “What’s opposite of an American animal?” “Camel.” “Ok, now what’s something that says America?” “Nascar!” Done, it’s a Nascar Camel, you idiot. If we draw or say something that’s humorous to us, then we make it.
D It’s all just stuff we’re interested in ... animals, violence, weapons, rapelling and ropes, bling, consensual inter-racial sex, sharp objects ... it’s all in there. We’ve shot guns together: handguns, World War II rifles, and modern assault rifles like the M-16. Me and Col!n both worked valet in Boston, drove some Bentleys, Porsches, and Ferraris. Many of the animals we build we’ve seen in the wild. Luke and I approached many buffalos, got hunted by a bear together in Yosemite (he stole a loaf of bread from us!). On the Cali coast me, Col!n, and Meers saw lots of elephant seals, which informed the King Walrus. We don’t just make this shit up for art’s sake — this shit is our life!
