“Titian, Tintoretto, Veronese: Rivals in Renaissance Venice” at the MFA.
The MFA believes that Tintoretto and assistants reworked the Crucifixion two decades years after he originally painted it. “He cut out the two main figures (now the Virgin Mary and Saint Anne),” the museum says, “added a section between them showing Joseph and the baby Jesus, and sections at either end depicting the procession of the Magi (upper left) and the annunciation to the shepherds (upper right)."
