When you were carrying a flag, what flag was it?
The voice of the people. I was trying to be that lone voice in the wilderness saying that something is wrong. Like, "What are we doing with the climate?" But you know what? The train has left the station, and people are just too stupid to try and stop this train of destruction. Nothing's working.
What else is wrong?
Money, greed, things you can't take with you. I said, "Let's fix that." I stopped trying to say that, because my voice does not matter. There was a point where controversy sold. Now, controversy kills.
You were known for your outrageousness. Now, you don't want to risk offending someone?
Oh, you're always offending someone, because you don't know how people feel and think about things. But right now, my intent is not to offend. I just want to laugh. I want to suspend reality. If I need to cry, I can turn on the news and see what's going on in Haiti.
Did you vote for Obama?
I've never voted, though I was very happy at Obama's election. I don't emotionally invest in the system. I was raised a Jehovah's Witness. I voted for God. I don't really believe it is in man's power to fix the problems in the world.
What ticks you off?
I hate the destruction of art right now. Television is awful, because it costs money to create fantasy, and that reality garbage costs nothing. We're losing so much of what's great about television and film. We're raping and pillaging, and one day there's gonna be a few companies that rule the world — our country, anyway — and Joe Public won't be able to do anything about it, because it's gone too far.
