One counter down is PIE IN THE SKY, a pizza venture from the folks at Big Sky Bread downstairs. They make both individual and larger pizzas fresh to order with impressive speed. And while the crust is not exactly brick-oven quality, this pizza has a lot of classic virtues. The toppings are fresh, mostly old-school, and ample. The vibrant tomato sauce is sweet and herbaceous.
With its free wi-fi and pleasant bustle, upstairs at PMH is a good place to sit for a while. MARKET HOUSE COFFEE brews a strong dark cup from the beans of Rockland's Rock City Roasters for you to sip while you hang out. Maybe your surroundings won't be quite as elegant as the old Public Market. But the quirky, unplanned, and unpredictable charms of the PMH make it a success that feels more appropriate to our scrappy little city.
