Luscious summer produce becomes lushes' delight in the hands of local mixologists
WATERMELON Wanton Woman at The Gallows
In the endless months of summer we remember from childhood, nothing beat sinking your gob into an epic slice of watermelon. The rind would always awkwardly hit both sides of your face while bright red juice ran down your arms, necessitating a dip in the pool to clear away all of the sticky remnants, but it was always worth it. No offense to your inner child and all, but there's something better: alcoholic watermelon! No, we're not talking about pumping a whole melon full of Svedka, frat-party-style (though we could probably get behind that). What we advise instead is the WANTON WOMAN ($10) from the good folks at the Gallows. This blend of watermelon-infused gin and lemon, topped with a sparkling float, retains the sweetness and subtlety of a hefty kid-size slice, with no cloying pink–Jolly Rancher edge.
