LUCKY PEACH 4: "THE AMERICAN FOOD ISSUE"READ THIS IF YOU WERE OBSESSED WITH CHOOSE-YOUR-OWN-ADVENTURE BOOKS AS A KID, OR YOU LOVE NURSING A BEER (OR TWO, OR THREE) AND HAVING EXISTENTIAL DEBATES FOR HOURS WITH YOUR SNARKY FRIENDS.
In this fourth installment of everyone's go-to grub mag, Chang, Meehan, Ying & Co. attempt to tackle the sweaty behemoth that is American cuisine. As always, the issue is rife with recipes here and there for you to fuck up a few times before you master them, all peppered with gems like: "strap your food processor with ice bags, like phone books to an inmate's torso." This time, there's a Texas vs. California taco showdown in the form of a choose-your-own-taco-adventure, a breakdown of polarizing food film Diner, odes to frozen and canned food, and tons more weird stuff, like Michelle Bachmann eating a hot dog. If that didn't just send you running for the nearest bookstore, we're at a loss.
BEST PAIRED WITH ALISON'S CALIFORNIAN AL PASTOR TACOS, ON PAGE 164. OR, ANY TACOS ANYWHERE. MAYBE FRIED CHICKEN.
