For example, roughly 90 HIV vaccines have been tested in primates and been shown to be safe and effective. And in every single case, there have been 90 vaccines that have gotten human trials because they worked in monkeys, and in every single case when they've gotten to human trials, they haven't protected humans from HIV. And none of them have ever made it to market because of that. And in some cases they've actually made humans more susceptible to HIV.
WHO ELSE IS WORKING ON PRIMATE ISSUES? We work on primate issues. The New England Anti-vivisection Society works on primate issues. The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. Both them and the Anti-vivisection Society are working hard on the Great Ape Protection Act right now, and they work on primate issues in general. There are a lot of organizations in the US that devote time and energy on this issue.
