M83 Spring 12

WEDNESDAY MAY 9

HURRY BACK, WE'RE DREAMING

Best show of 2011? They don't hand out awards for that sort of thing, but if they did, November's M83 gig would have to be included on the short-list of nominees. Buzz escalated upon the release of a beyond-ethereal single, "Midnight City," forcing the powers that be to bump the performance from the Paradise to the House of Blues. And it still sold out. In the somewhat daunting face of all that hype, the French ensemble delivered, so much so that they're swinging back through for an encore performance at the House of Blues, 15 Lansdowne St, Boston | 7 pm| $22-$35 | 800.745.3000 or livenation.com.

Spiritualized

SPACEMAN

The trials of Jason Pierce are well known. In 2005, the SPIRITUALIZED frontman went through a severe bout of double pneumonia that nearly cost him his life. The result of that experience was Songs in A&E (Universal), an album that may have succeeded in completely bowling people over with its expansive take on the solemnly introverted experience . . . if only the rest of his back-catalog wasn't comparably weighty. His most recent effort (out March 19) Sweet Heart Sweet Light (Double Six) bears a pleasant enough title, but knowing Pierce, don't expect anything sweet or light when you come to revel in his perfect misery at the Paradise Rock Club, 967 Comm Ave, Boston | 7 pm | $22 | 800.745.3000 or ticketmaster.com.
