THURSDAY MARCH 29
A lot of film festivals come through Boston. So many, in fact, that it can become hard to keep track, especially when so many of them are worth a look. No film fest consistently opens the eyes of both seasoned film critics and casual theater-goers alike to new, experimental— sometimes downright weird— and groundbreaking films, however, as does the BOSTON UNDERGROUND FILM FESTIVAL. An annual fixture on the spring film fest circuit, B.U.F.F. never fails to excite and intrigue. This year's weekend of films (schedule TBA) is at the Brattle Theatre, 40 Brattle St, Cambridge | March 29–April 1 | price info TBA| bostonunderground.org.
All it took to skyrocket Australian indie multi-instrumentalist Wouter "Wally" De Backer, a/k/a GOTYE, from relative anonymity to selling out club shows faster than you can click a mouse, was the wildfire Internet buzz response to his single "Somebody I Used To Know." A few million hits on the video (and not a few tributes— check out Walk off the Earth and Sarah Blacker's five people/one guitar cover) later and Gotye's a household name. See what all the well-deserved buzz is about when he plays a show at the House of Blues [moved from Brighton Music Hall due to demand] at 15 Lansdowne St, Boston | 7 pm | SOLD OUT | livenation.com.
