The St. Patrick's Day Parade rolled through South Boston on Sunday, March 18, 2012.

    South Boston is famous for producing politicians the way Detroit is known for manufacturing automobiles.

    The Irish playwright Brendan Behan, known for his plays The Hostage and The Quare Fellow and for his memoir Borstal Boy, was a raucous, charismatic, hard-drinking Irish Republican who began to write after he got out of prison for shooting at English detectives during a public event.
  • Dropkick Murphys: Talking punk, place, and parochialism with the last gang in town.
    The day after the world didn't end — and a couple of weeks before the January 8 release of their new album Signed and Sealed in Blood — I met up with Dropkick Murphys' Ken Casey, Matt Kelly, and James Lynch at Mul's Diner in Southie.
