Bornstein's Behind the Mask Theater stages productions that draw on multicultural myths. This shishi (lion) mask, made with 22-karat gold leaf, is from its show Cat Mountain, a Japanese folktale about a young servant girl's quest for freedom (and her lost cat). Bornstein also outfits other companies. The neighboring horned púca, a "dark fairy" from Irish mythology, was created for Contemporary Theater of Boston's staging of A Midsummer Night's Dream.
