Eventually, those same signs looked inviting. He knew where they led. And more important, he knew (eventually) he'd be okay.
To celebrate his successful return to Boston, Freeland will be performing a welcome-home musical gig (at O'Brien's Pub in Allston) on Sunday called "Rocduv Returns." Catch him there or soon after, before his restlessness kicks in — he has been of late considering giving his project a second spin in a new, much more challenging location.
"I'd like to do something like this in Sierra Leone," he says. "And I tell people that and they're, like, 'This is why you're gonna die doing that.'
"But people thought that I'd die doing this."
