Finalists from our annual illustration contest

Every year, students from Bob Maloney’s ‘Experimental Illustration’ class at MassArt take on the challenge and compete with each other for the Phoenix’s annual Ski /Snowboard cover.

All the contestants did a fine job, again, this year and the decision was tough. Ultimately, the winning illustration for the cover-art contest this year was by Stefan Volatile-Wood. The illustration features an almighty Yeti catching amazing air somewhere deep in the woods of perhaps New Hampshire or Vermont.

If you were going to recount the evolution of hippie guy fashion, you might say that what began with psychedelic ruffled shirts and corduroy pants in 1968 has in late middle age split into two streams: collarless white button-down shirts, usually buttoned right up to the neck and worn with a black vest, and Hawaiian shirts.
