#9: Disney-fication begins, 1934

The parade celebrated 10 years in New York City with the debut of the first Mickey Mouse balloon, paving the way for that other, less successful rodent, Mighty Mouse (1951) and scoring a place in the parade for Donald Duck (1962), Goofy (1992), and, in more recent years, real-life Disney properties like High School Musical and the Jonas Brothers. This year, the fourth incarnation of the mouse, Sailor Mickey, floats through the Big Apple.
