Jonah Hill and Russell Brand reunite with Forgetting Sarah Marshall director Nicholas Stoller in his boisterous new comedy. Is it a sequel? Kind of.
Brand still plays British rocker Aldous Snow, who’s now off the wagon and needing a comeback. Hill, however, is a new character entirely: Aaron Green, a young record executive who’s been given 72 hours by label owner Sergio Roma (a hilarious Sean “P. Diddy” Combs) to fly from LA to London to retrieve Snow and get him to the Greek Theatre back in LA. En route, the mismatched duo stop at The Today Show, where the heroin-addled hipster plans on resurrecting “African Child,” the title track of an album that’s been called “the worst thing to happen to black culture since the Rodney King beating.”
If this sounds like a remake of My Favorite Year for the new millennium, well, it is. Being a Judd Apatow production, it’s also sweet-natured, despite an unrelenting onslaught of raunch.
