Marco Amenta turns the true-life saga of a 17-year-old Italian girl who testified against the Mafia in a famous 1992 trial in Palermo into a fictionalized, conventional, fairly diverting melodrama.
Horrified by the murder of her beloved father in the Sicilian town of Balata, Rita Atria (Veronica D'Agostini) realizes that her Cosa Nostra uncle is behind the killing. Should the hot-headed and gun-crazy Rita avenge her father herself? Or should she fink by going to the hated police?
Her actual path is even thornier, since her boyfriend is involved with the local Mafia — and the more she learns, the more it seems that her saintly dad, a local hero in his town, might also have done nefarious deeds. It's quite the familiar story, from Hamlet to HBO.
