Ballet and self-flagellation — it doesn't sound like the kind of thing people looking for cheap thrills or easy laughs would be interested in. Aronofsky, though, has faith in his audience. "I'm not really much of a genre guy. This was my best attempt at a genre film. But I think audiences don't need that anymore. They are very sophisticated — as long as it's fun, and entertaining. And different."
