Sam Wexler (Josh Radnor, who also wrote and directed) is an asshole. A self-important freelance writer, he's the kind of guy who makes half-hearted promises to girls so he can get them into bed. His friend Annie (Malin Akerman) bemoans the way 29-year-old men act as if they were 12 — yet she's too stubborn to look past the physical imperfections of the one guy who shows a legitimate interest in her. Their friends (Pablo Schreiber and Zoe Kazan) are actually a pleasant couple, but their contribution to this plodding plot is as clichéd as it gets. He has a job opportunity that would require them to leave New York. She finds out she's pregnant. What will they do? And, more important, why should we care about their trivial hipster quandaries? Rasheen (Michael Algieri) is a young child taken in by Sam after he gets lost on the subway. Acting as a heavy-handed metaphor, he's a saving grace both for the film and for these aimless twentysomethings.
